Send a letter from Sweden to Asia

East Asia writes addresses from largest unit to smallest when written in the local script: country, province, city, district, street, building number, and the recipient's name last. When you write in Latin letters you reverse that order.

Japan has no street names. The address identifies a district, a block and a building with three numbers in sequence, for example 3-5-12.

South-East Asia relies on administrative levels below the city: barangay in the Philippines, RT/RW in Indonesia, ward and district in Vietnam, khwaeng and khet in Thailand. These are mandatory parts of the address, not extras.

The Gulf states have no delivery to residential addresses. In the United Arab Emirates all mail goes to a P.O. Box, and there are no postcodes at all.

Ask the recipient to send you the address exactly as they would write it locally, then copy it line for line and add the Swedish country name at the bottom.

Normal delivery is 7–20 working days counted from our hand-in to PostNord. Order before 11:45 on a weekday and the letter is handed in the same day.

Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong have fast and precise delivery once the letter is in the country.

India, Pakistan and Indonesia have enormous delivery networks but a long final leg, particularly outside the cities.

Every letter you send through us is posted inside Sweden. Swedish sorting reads the last line of the address to decide which country the letter leaves for, and it reads Swedish country names.

So write GERMANY nowhere and TYSKLAND on the last line. Everything above it should be written as a postal worker in the destination country would expect to read it.

Banknotes and coins may not be sent in an international letter. Dangerous goods are prohibited, and goods sent to countries outside the EU need a customs declaration that an ordinary letter does not carry.
