How do you address a letter to France from Sweden?
The house number is written before the street name: 12 rue de la Paix. The street type (rue, avenue, boulevard, place) is written in lowercase and forms part of the street name.
The postcode has five digits and comes before the town name. The first two digits indicate the département—75 is Paris, 13 is Marseille, 69 is Lyon. A mistake in the first digit sends your letter to the wrong part of the country.
La Poste recommends writing the town name in capital letters without accents on the last address line before the country name.
If the recipient lives in an apartment building, you often need to include Bâtiment (building), Escalier (staircase) or Appartement—these appear on the line above the street address.

How does the post work in France?
La Poste, the French postal operator, phased out its fastest letter class in 2023 and now delivers ordinary domestic letters within three working days. Mail from abroad enters the same delivery flow.
France includes both European mainland territory and overseas départements such as Réunion and Guadeloupe. These overseas areas have their own postcode series and significantly longer delivery times than mainland France.
Can you send registered mail to France?
Registered international mail (Rek utrikes) may contain documents only, weighs no more than 2 kg and carries liability up to 2,000 SEK. It can be tracked to most countries, and only one recipient may be named.
It is the right service for notices of termination, powers of attorney and legal documents where you need proof that the letter was sent. The country name still has to be written in Swedish on a registered letter — FRANKRIKE on the last line.
What you may not send
Banknotes and coins may not be sent in an international letter, in any currency and for any amount. Dangerous goods are prohibited. Goods sent in a letter to a country outside the EU require a customs declaration and a barcode that an ordinary letter does not carry.
