Send a letter to Czech Republic from Sweden
By BrevredaktionenFact-checked
A letter from Sweden to Czech Republic costs 88 SEK as standard and 128 SEK as express, and normally takes 3–7 vardagar. Czech postcodes are written with a space after the third digit: 110 00. Write the country name in Swedish on the last line — TJECKIEN — because the letter is sorted in Sweden first. Write it here and we print and post it.
How do you address a letter to Czech Republic from Sweden?
The postcode appears before the city name and is written in the format 110 00, with a space after the third digit.
House numbers come after the street name. Many Czech addresses use two numbers separated by a slash (12/34) — an orientation number and a descriptive number. If your recipient writes both, include both.
Prague addresses include a district number after the city name: PRAHA 1, PRAHA 6, and so on. This district number is part of the address and must not be omitted.
Czech diacritical marks such as č, ř, š, ž, and ů should be written out in full.
The final line of the address must read TJECKIEN in capital letters. This is the Swedish name for the Czech Republic, and it's essential because your letter is sorted in Sweden before leaving the country.
The last line is always the country name in Swedish: TJECKIEN. This surprises people who write the rest of the address in English, but the letter is sorted in Sweden before it leaves the country, and Swedish sorting reads Swedish. Everything above that line should look exactly as it would if the letter had been posted inside Czech Republic, because a postal worker there is the one who has to read it.
What goes wrong on letters sent to Czech Republic?
Almost every letter that fails to arrive has an address problem, not a transport problem. These are the mistakes that keep coming back on mail posted from Sweden to Czech Republic:
- Writing the postcode without a space (11000 instead of 110 00)
- Leaving out the Prague district number (writing PRAHA instead of PRAHA 1)
- Writing 'CZECH REPUBLIC' on the last line instead of TJECKIEN
- Omitting the second house number when the address includes both orientation and descriptive numbers
- Forgetting diacritical marks on letters like č and ř
Always add a sender address. A letter with a correct sender comes back to you if the address is wrong, and you can then send it again. Without one, the letter is simply gone.
How long does a letter from Sweden to Czech Republic take?
Normal delivery is 3–7 vardagar, counted from the moment we hand the letter to PostNord — not from the moment you order. Order before 11:45 on a weekday and the letter is handed in the same day.
Most of the variation comes from distribution inside Czech Republic rather than from the flight. A letter to a major city arrives faster than one to a rural address in the same country.
What does it cost to send a letter to Czech Republic?
A standard letter to Czech Republic costs 88 SEK and an express letter 128 SEK. Printing, paper, envelope, postage and hand-in to PostNord are all included. The price is the same to every country, so you never need to know which postal zone Czech Republic belongs to.
PostNord divides the world into seven zones if you buy stamps and post the letter yourself, which is why other services charge different amounts for different countries. The table below shows both options.
| Price | Normal delivery time | |
|---|---|---|
| Posta Brev, standard | 49 SEK + 39 SEK = 88 SEK | 3–7 vardagar |
| Posta Brev, express | 89 SEK + 39 SEK = 128 SEK | Earlier hand-in, same postal route |
| Own stamp, up to 50 g | 44 SEK | 3–7 vardagar |
| Own stamp, up to 100 g | 66 SEK | 3–7 vardagar |
| Own stamp, up to 250 g | 110 SEK (92 SEK via postnord.se) | 3–7 vardagar |
| Own stamp, up to 500 g | 140 SEK (115 SEK via postnord.se) | 3–7 vardagar |
| Own stamp, up to 1,000 g | 200 SEK (180 SEK via postnord.se) | 3–7 vardagar |
| Own stamp, up to 2,000 g | 240 SEK (220 SEK via postnord.se) | 3–7 vardagar |
How does the post work in Czech Republic?
Česká pošta, the Czech postal operator, handles all incoming international mail. While they offer both faster and slower domestic letter classes within the Czech Republic, international post arriving from abroad is processed through their standard delivery stream.
Once your letter reaches the Czech Republic, Česká pošta takes over for final delivery. Delivery times within the country are generally reliable, though as with any postal system, local conditions and the specific destination can affect timing.
Can you send registered mail to Czech Republic?
Registered international mail (Rek utrikes) may contain documents only, weighs no more than 2 kg and carries liability up to 2,000 SEK. It can be tracked to most countries, and only one recipient may be named.
It is the right service for notices of termination, powers of attorney and legal documents where you need proof that the letter was sent. The country name still has to be written in Swedish on a registered letter — TJECKIEN on the last line.
What you may not send
Banknotes and coins may not be sent in an international letter, in any currency and for any amount. Dangerous goods are prohibited. Goods sent in a letter to a country outside the EU require a customs declaration and a barcode that an ordinary letter does not carry.
We therefore send documents and personal letters only. That is also what keeps the service simple: no customs forms, no weighing and no questions about the contents.
