Send a letter from Sweden to South America

Latin American addresses put the street name before the house number: Av. Paulista 1578, Calle Mayor 25.

The neighbourhood has different names but the same function: bairro in Brazil, colonia in Mexico, comuna in Chile, distrito in Peru. It goes on its own line and is mandatory.

Colombia uses a grid instead of street names. Calle 72 # 10-34 means street 72, just past Carrera 10, building 34. Copy the address exactly as the recipient gives it.

Brazil's CEP is written 01310-200 with a hyphen, and the two-letter state code belongs after the city name.

Finish with the Swedish country name in capitals, for example BRASILIEN or ARGENTINA.

Normal delivery is 10–25 working days counted from our hand-in to PostNord. Order before 11:45 on a weekday and the letter is handed in the same day.

Coastal cities in Brazil, Argentina and Chile have normal delivery. The Amazon, the Andes and Patagonia take considerably longer.

Customs control is strict on items suspected of containing goods. Send documents and personal letters only.

Every letter you send through us is posted inside Sweden. Swedish sorting reads the last line of the address to decide which country the letter leaves for, and it reads Swedish country names.

So write GERMANY nowhere and TYSKLAND on the last line. Everything above it should be written as a postal worker in the destination country would expect to read it.

Banknotes and coins may not be sent in an international letter. Dangerous goods are prohibited, and goods sent to countries outside the EU need a customs declaration that an ordinary letter does not carry.
